Why we haven’t evicted deposed Emir – Kano CP

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, AIG Usaini Gumel, has said the force has not obeyed Governor Abba Yusuf’s directive to evict the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero from his current residence due to the legal tussle surrounding the matter.

On Thursday night, the governor directed the police boss to remove Bayero from the Nasarawa mini palace where he is currently residing to pave the way for renovations.

The directive was issued through the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi.

Addressing the matter, AIG Gumel said obeying the eviction order would amount to pre-empting the courts as the same Kano state government had filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order which is due for determination on Monday, June 24.

“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024.

“The government is jumping the gun because the same government has filed a case on the eviction order, which is coming up on the 24th of June, 2024.

“So, if we carry out the order, it is like we are pre-empting the court because we don’t know what will happen at the court,” the commissioner said on Friday.

Meanwhile, the state government said on Thursday that a Federal High Court ruling issued the same day was in its favour and affirmed the Abba Yusuf-led government’s decision to reinstate Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir.
