World Kidney day (WKD)2022: The need for concerted effort to improve Renal care

On this year’s WKD 2022, It’s my pleasure to salute everyone involved in improving renal care among our people.
As we are aware, Chronic Renal diseases affect 10% of the global population and Kidney disease related mortality and morbidity continues to increase annually and projected to be the 5th leading cause of death by the year 2024.

Therefore, there is need for a concerted effort by all the relevant stakeholders in health especially the health policy makers towards reducing the incidence of, and the mortality and morbidity arising from Kidney diseases. There is also a great need to mobilize and sensitize the public on the strategies and means of protecting the kidneys.

In our strategic approach towards establishing our hospital as a Regional center for Renal care, we had upgraded and modernize our Renal center with the acquisition of 10 brand new, ultramodern dialysis machines and a new Reverse Osmosis Water treatment machine. The center is powered by a brand new 100KVA generator.

But the Mainstay of our plan for a Regional Renal center of Excellence with capacity for intervention nephrology including Renal transplant is the new ultramodern Renal center being constructed at the Permanent site of the hospital. This facility which has reached 50% completion has a space for 40 dialysis machines in 3 sections; Intensive Care Unit, Procedure rooms, Private dialysis suites as well as as 3 Reverse Osmosis water treatment machines. Our objective is to make NAUTH a hub for dialysis care as well as other Renal care services.

Below is the Renal Center under construction

Once again, I sincerely thank everyone who has been patnering with us to improve and standardize our Renal care services. I thank In a special way all the people looking after our Renal patients in our Renal center.
I pray God to continue to bless the works of our hands so that through our services, our patients will always receive cure and succour.

Once again, I thank you all for all you are doing for humanity. May God bless and prosper us in Jesus name, Amen!

Dr Ugboaja Joseph O
Chief Medical Director,
NAUTH Nnewi.
