Ebonyi INEC Attacks: Gov Umahi Queries Council Chairmen, Aides

The Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, has directed the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner, Dr. Kenneth Ugballa, to immediately issue queries to the chairman of Ebonyi local government area, Mrs. Chinyere Nwaogbaga and her Ezza North counterpart, Dr. Mrs. Nora Aloh, over the arsonist attacks on INEC offices in their domains.

Others to receive query are the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Barr. Samuel Okoronkwo, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on State and Local Government Affairs, Hon. Enekwachi Akpa.

Briefing journalists on Wednesday shortly after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the old Executive Council Chamber, Government House Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji, noted that the state government frowned at the unfortunate attacks and urged the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

Orji stated that the state government also frowned at the inability of the officials queried to nip the attacks in the bud, adding that they were expected to respond on why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for failing in their duties.

He noted that state government had warned every government functionary to rise against security challenges in their localities and show diligence, saying failure to do so will attract disciplinary action.

The spokesperson to the Ebonyi State government also stated that the Governor Umahi during the SEC meeting effected a minor cabinet reshuffle.

According to him, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Clement Nweke, is to serve as the acting Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development pending when the State House of Assembly confirms his appointment while the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mrs. Queen Agwu, has been redeployed to serve as the Principal Secretary to the Governor.
