Anambra state Police Command has launched Rapid Response Squad to fight crime and Criminality in the state during and after the Yuletide period.
The team are to patrol round streets of Anambra throughout the Yuletide season and after, to ensure full protection of life and properties of the citizenry.
Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that Officers and men of the Anambra state Police Command kicked-off the patrol exercise with township patrol led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Muhammed, to create awareness on the exercise and also remind criminal elements that they have no place in the state.
During the township patrol exercise, the team which kicked off at the Police Headquarters in Amawbia passed through Eke Awka market, Agu-Awka, Unizik junction, Amawbia bypass junction, Amawbia round about by Enugu-Onitsha old road, among other strategic points.
Addressing journalists after the patrol, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Abang who spoke through the PPRO Mr Muhammed, said that the Rapid Response Squad was launched to make sure that there is safety in Anambra during and after the Christmas period, disclosing that the officers are already given a clear instruction to be civil to members of the public and exhibit high professionalism in the discharge of their official duties throughout the period.
A road user, Comrade Emeka Odogwu who is also a journalist, described such feat achieved by the present administration in the security sector as a welcome development, saying that such would help in checkmating the tension incurred by the recent nationwide EndSARS protest and as well ensure crisis free Christmas celebration in Anambra state.
For Emeka Okeke of the ABS, the continuous achievement of Governor Willie Obiano in the security sector of the state is second to none in the whole federation as Anambra has over the years since the inception of the Obiano led administration become the safest state in Nigeria.
An Amawbia resident, Mrs Eveline Obumselu, observed that the launch of the Rapid Response Squad in Anambra in this Yuletide will in no small measure, save the state residents from the hands of hoodlums who would have launched their evil plots on the citizenry during Christmas celebration since SARS had been disbanded.
