No fewer than 11 persons were on Friday injured in a motor crash in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state.
Forty-one persons were said to have escaped in the crash unhurt.
The accident which occurred around 2pm involved six vehicles with 52 persons on board.
It was gathered that the crash was caused by excessive speeding resulting in loss of control.
An eyewitness said the victims were rescued by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and were rushed to various hospitals in the area.
The state FRSC Sector Commander, Andrew Kumapayi, confirmed the incident.
He said, “A multiple and serious crash happened at Ihiala opposite St Anthony Catholic Church at about 2pm today 1st January.
“The crash involved six vehicle’s which include, an unidentified driver of Toyota Hiace bus with registration number Agb 268 ZT; an unidentified driver of a Mark Trailer with registration number GWA 456 YR and unidentified driver of Toyota Hiace bus with registration number NEN 106 XQ.
“Fifty-two persons were involved in the crash, which includes 38 male adults and 14 female adults, 11 persons sustained injuries and were taken to Obijackson Foundation and lady of Lourdes hospitals respectively all in Ihiala for treatment by FRSC rescue team.”
