Anambra businessman offers scholarships, pays hospital bills to mark birthday

Anambra businessman, Chief Ken Maduakor(Ichie Chukwumeucheya) on Tuesday offered scholarship to fifty students and paid hospital bills for indigent patients to mark his 50th birthday.

The benefiting students are drawn from the celebrant’s Ihiala Local Government Area and Nnewi North Local Goverment Area of Anambra State.

The fifteen indigent patients who benefitted from Chief Maduakor’s birthday gift were patients at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala and patients at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH)Nnewi.

The celebrant philanthropist spent millions of Naira in the process of clearing the medical bills of the indigent patients at the two hospitals.

Chief Maduakor popularly called Kenneth Azia in the business community also paid for the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) of the selected fifty students and also paid for their JAMB.

The overall best student got additional fifty thousand Naira from the celebrant with a promise of sponsorship in the university if he excel in his examinations.

Rev.Fr Jonathan Mmadueke, Administrator, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Ihiala appreciated the celebrant for marking his birthday with philanthropist gesture of putting smile on the faces of the poor.

Fr Mmadueke likened the celebrant’s gesture of settling hospital bills of the indigents to setting them free from captivity.

The Administrator of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital urged the affluent persons to borrow a leaf from the philantropic gesture of Kenneth Azia.

A beneficiary, Onyinye Afunwa Chinyere who thanked the celebrant on behalf of herself and others said that Kenneth Azia has made their Christmas season worthwhile.

The overall best student, Obi Samuel said that the intervention of Chief Ken Maduakor will give a big respite to his parents who are already finding things difficult.

The celebrant, Chief Maduakor while speaking with journalists during a party put together for him by his committee of friends said that it gives him special joy to see poor persons smile because of his modest efforts.
