The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu(CP) has re-echoed the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu(IGP) on zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional conduct among officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
He noted that the Police Force belongs to all Nigerians and must remain accountable to the people.
The CP gave the directive during a briefing with officers at the Command Headquarters, Awka, where he emphasized the need for strict adherence to professional ethics, discipline, and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
CP Orutugu warned that the Command will not tolerate any form of misconduct, including extortion, abuse of office, and other unprofessional acts capable of undermining public trust and confidence in the Police, stressing that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with extant regulations.
He pointed out that the Presidential order on the stoppage/withdrawal of Police personnel from unauthorized VIP protection duties remains in force and directed strict compliance by all officers.
The Commissioner also cautioned against the misuse of Police personnel for private engagements not officially approved, adding that defaulters will be sanctioned accordingly.
CP Orutugu reiterated the importance of people-friendly policing, respect for human rights, and professionalism in security service delivery, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
He asserted that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property while upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
