Armed herders behead a medicine seller in Benue


A patient medicine seller identified as
Ojoma Emie was on Monday killed and beheaded by suspected armed herders in a renewed attack.

The incident happened on Monday, where in Ikobi, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State the patient medicine seller was reported to be returning from the council headquarters in. Ugbokpo where he had gone to purchase medicine.

A native who identified himself simply as Sam told newsmen in a telephone interview on Monday that the deceased had gone to the local government headquarters, Ugbokpo but was killed while returning to Ikobi.

According to Sam, “What we gathered was that the deceased who was a patient medicine seller had gone to Ugbokpo to buy medicine and stock his shop.

“Unfortunately, as he was returning to his community at Ikobi, he was ambushed on a motorcycle at Ugbobi Junction, killed and the assailants cut off his head and went away with it,” Sam said.

The native further stated that the exact spot the incident happened had been notorious for ambush of travellers.

The Chairman of the local government, Adams Ochega who confirmed the incidentt said that the deceased was on his way to Ikobi when he was ambushed, killed and beheaded.

Ochega said, “He was on his way from Ikobi to Ugbokpo. while the killers ambushed him & beheaded him on the way.”

Meanwhile the spokesperson for the State Command, DSP, Udeme Edet said she had yet to receive the report.
