…As Stakeholders Task Alor Women on Proper Child Upbringing, Communal Child Training

The newly inaugurated Community Women Leader of Alor Community, Lady Ifeoma Uzokwe and other Stakeholders have tasked mothers to sit up and teach their children proper moral values and godliness so that they would not become a menace in the society.
The call urging Ndigbo to revert to communal training, Igbo language and craftsmanship was made during the 2026 Alor Women August Meeting where the entire Inyom Alor Exco was unanimously reelected for a second term and inaugurated at Alor Community, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State
The Keynote Speaker, Former Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board ASUBEB Chairman, Dr. Nkiru Nwadinobi recalled that originally in Igboland, communal training of children was practiced by co-wives (Ndi Nwunye di), Umu ada and umunna collectively to impart good morals, discipline, respect for elders and others.
“Like before, the extended family members should be involved in training a child, those days, neighbors in the streets help to train and correct other children by reporting their evil acts to their parents. If you see a child half dressed, don’t curse rather correct in love.
“It seems we have failed as mothers! Igbos believe in hard work. Allow your children to learn a skill during long vacation. Do away with holiday lessons. Your child should be fluent in their mother tongue, Igbo language before any other language,” said Dr. Nwadinobi.
Earlier in her address, Lady Uzokwe urged mothers to checkmate their children early in life encouraging mothers to eschew laziness and become industrious to enable them assist their husbands in meeting the needs of the family.
“Our children do not go to church anymore. Child upbringing should be taken seriously. Our women should sit down and start retraining their children in the fear of the lord and inculcate moral values in them,” said Mrs Uzokwe.
Lady Uzokwe said that what brought about their reelection was that the leadership love doing things together. “We are transparent and accommodating. We make sure that our programs and projects touch the lives of the women”.
“Our achievements so far include successfully hosting the 2nd Inyom Alor Worldwide Summit that showcased our unity, strength and beauty of Home & Abroad members.
“We built 12 lock-up shops In our market for our women’s economic empowerment and IGR for Alor Community.We installed 9 gates and built the perimeter fence around Nkwo Alor market to curb incessant raids in our market by hoodlums and to safeguard lives and goods.
“We facilitated interest free soft loans for our market women through the magnanimity of our PG Agbaigwe to boost their small businesses.
“We ensured that many of our women and daughters enrolled in Skills acquisition/empowerment schemes in collaboration with NGOs and the LGA through our Workaholic Mayor, Chief Amaka Obi Iyom Ifeabata. Above all, is our spiritual empowerment where we teach women to develop a healthy relationship with God just like today we listened to messages from three different Ministers of the God.
She further persuaded the women to patronize Alor Microfinance bank which has been upgraded to digital/inter banking saying that it would save them time and stress going down to commercial banks at Nnewi.
“The next project we have is to German floor the Nkwoka Alor market so that it will no longer be muddy especially during rainy season.I employ Inyom Alor to be focused in life, direction , having a good heart,” Mrs Uzokwe added.

“So many children are out in the streets today addicted to drugs, touting, not because they have do not have mothers but probably their mothers were weak, pampering their children and hoping they would change without training. Now , they have outgrown their parents to become a menace in the society,” said Mrs Akubueze.
The Seven member executive include Women President General – Lady Ifeoma Uzokwe, Vice President – Mrs Lucy Uzoegbunam, General Secretary – Mrs Chiamaka Igwebuike, Asst. Sec. – Mrs Chinwe Okoyeobele, Financial Sec. – Mrs Benedicta Nwoyegbuzue, Treasurer – Mrs Nkiru Oyeudo, PRO – Mrs Esther Okonkwo.
Those who witnessed the inauguration for a second 3 year term in office during the August meeting included the Mayor of Idemili South, Hon Mrs Amaka Obi (Iyom Ifeabata), President of Anambra State Town Union Council ASTUC Women Wing, Mrs Blessing Onuigwe, Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare Hon Mrs Esther Onyekesi ably represented by Mrs Benice Uchendu, Women Development Officer WDO and Social Welfare Unit Idemili South LGA, Lady Oby Nwosu and Ms Oby Ugwumba respectively and the President General of Alor, High Chief Emmanuel Ojukwu Agbaigwe and all entire Alor Women (Inyom Alor) including representatives from Lagos Branch and other abroad branches.
