Chief Douglas Mbonu was alarmed that Chuba Obi could play a pivotal role in thwarting the oral testament of Emeka Mbonu

Chief Douglas Mbonu (Akaezunwamadu), is the Obi of Mbaefo family of Okpuno Nnewichi Nnewi. In his capacity as the Obi, that by implication, makes him the traditional head of the vast Mbonu extended family, and the entire Mbaefo dynasty.

Chief Douglas feels so sad that his brother cousin’s wish to be buried beside his late father, S O K Mbonu, will not be fulfilled, going from the look of things.

Chief Mbonu associated wholly with the decision of the entire Mbonu family and the Mbaefo clan to hold Chuba Obi responsible for electing to be the backbone that stiffened the resolve of Oby Mbonu, late Emeka’s wife to etch in our hearts pain of indescribable proportion permanently and to impose the last act of wickedness on the late husband, who did nothing but cared for his family.

Chuba Obi, a native of Ogidi in Idemili North of Anambra state, understood what it meant for an Igbo man or woman to decide how they wished to be interred, Chief Mbonu admonished.

The late Emeka Mbonu was a crucial player in the larger Mbonu family affairs; he also worked hard to ensure that his two sons understood their roots by ensuring they experienced the activities. That was why he always brought them to Nnewi to participate in the family’s activities.

Chief Mbonu maintained that Chuba Obi was present on several occasions when the late Emeka Mbonu expressed his decision to be buried next to his father, who was his mentor.

Mr. Obi backed late Emeka’s wife to act ultra vires to the interest and avowed oral testament of our brother, Emeka, Chief Mbonu lamented.

Chief Mbonu said that as soon as the late Emeka, whose aged mother had travelled from Nigeria to the United Kingdom to provide him with the care Emeka’s wife refused to give him, died, Chuba Obi set up a platform in memory of the late Emeka Mbonu. Most of the donors contributed money with the intention that it would be used to fulfill the late Emeka Mbonu’s desire to be taken to his town, Nnewi, for burial.

The Mbonu family is dumbfounded at the betrayal of Chuba Obi despite the alleged intimate relationship between him and the late Emeka Mbonu’s wife. It should not have been enough reason to shut the Mbonu family and late Emeka Mbonu’s friends from deciding how the funds should be administered. Why should Chuba Obi make himself the sole administrator of the fund?

Chuba Obi is the last person any member of the Mbonu family, Emeka’s friends and acquaintances would suspect to be the arrowhead, besides the late Emeka’s wife to engineer this permanent pain by refusing to honor late Emeka’s wish to be buried beside his father.

Mrs. Mercy Mbonu, the mother of the late Emeka Mbonu, was heartbroken for losing her son, who has always ensured that she never lacked materially or emotionally. Her pain was magnified by the action of Chuba Obi, whom she had always welcomed in her home as one of her children, to be so heartless to hurt her son in death just to appease Oby.

The brothers had disclosed that they would only participle in activities their late brother designed for his final rest. Below is the disclaimer:

Dear All,

DISCLAIMER AGAINST THE PROPOSED BURIAL OF CHIEF EMEKA MBONU IN LONDON UNILATERALLY FIXED BY OBY MBONU.

We, the entire family of Mbonu-Mbaefo Royal Family of Okpuno Nnewichi, Nnewi comprising over 450 persons do hereby disassociate ourselves from the proposed burial of Chief Emeka Mbonu in London, which has been unilaterally fixed by Oby Mbonu and her mother, Mrs Susan Nonye Onuora despite the expressed desire of Chief Emeka Mbonu and the outcome of extensive consultations with all the family members with the exception of Oby Mbonu.

Emeka expressly informed our mother, Mrs. Mercy Mbonu on more than one occasion whilst she was looking after him in the hospital during his illness, that he wished to be buried in Nnewi, in his compound and by his father’s graveside.

Feeling that the end was near, Emeka continued with increased intensity, the building works on his new home, which he eventually completed while in the hospital. He was obviously preparing for his own burial.

Most people who knew Emeka would attest that he took his responsibilities as the first son of Chief S.O.K. Mbonu very seriously. He avidly participated in key functions, meetings, responsibilities and celebrations within the larger family and in Nnewi in general.

For the past sixteen years, particularly from 2007, Emeka started living and working in Nigeria while making out time to visit his family regularly in the United Kingdom. It was very important to Emeka to bestow also on his children the same kind of heritage he got from his father, which was Nigerian Igbo traditions, customs, and way of life and that was why he brought his children home most times.

It is an abomination for Oby to go against the expressed wish of Emeka and the decision of the entire family by deciding unilaterally to bury Emeka in London.
We are however not shocked by Oby’s disdainful behaviour because the so-called marriage between her and Emeka was mostly characterized by Oby’s extreme cruelty to Emeka. All Emeka’s friends in London will bear witness to this because this is public knowledge. Emeka never knew peace wherever he was, whether in London or in Nigeria. Oby constantly harangued Emeka in-person and through phone calls. Oby asked Emeka for divorce numerous times, even on his sick bed. In January 2023, while Emeka was gravely ill, Oby was still asking for divorce. Interestingly, each time Emeka accepted the challenge for divorce, Oby would chicken out only to turn around to demand divorce again after a small passage of time.

Despite all these, Emeka took care of his family and supported Oby in all her fervent restlessness going from being a doctor to a musician, to a soap maker, beauty product maker, exotic food maker, fashion designer and many more. In all these & all without success, Emeka supported Oby and he yet knew no peace.
Various doctors are of the firm belief that the effect of Oby’s cruelty to Emeka triggered off the illness that took his life. Yet in his illness it was Emeka’s mother that tended to and took care of Emeka while Oby was having her sound sleep in her room only to come down in the morning and sulk or insult. On occasions when her help was needed in the night to assist Emeka adjust to a more comfortable position, Oby refused to help, insisting that Emeka should wait till day break for the carers to come. For the two months period our mom was in Emeka’s house in London caring for her son, Oby never for once prepared a meal for her. Our mom was fed by relations and Emeka’s friends during the entire period. Such was her cruelty.

The highpoint was when Emeka, overcome, by Oby’s cruelty called his father-in-law and literally cried and shed tears while complaining to his father-in-law about Oby’s lack of care and wickedness. Unfortunately, Emeka’s father-in-law, a kind gentleman of dignity and faith, could not do much because he was battling with his own ill-health, which was also triggered by the cruelty of Oby’s mother. Oby’s mother taught her daughter very well in the art of extreme wickedness and total lack of empathy. Jezebels !!!

Emeka was loved by most people who came in contact with him in London, Nigeria, America and beyond. That the hallways of the hospitals were packed with Emeka’s visitors and well-wishers was a testament to his goodwill and this helped to sustain him during his most difficult times. People from all over cooked and supplied food and edibles to Emeka since Oby could not be bothered. They made sure that Emeka was well fed. All Oby offered in gratitude was scowls, grimace and deep frowns and on occasions, disrespect and insult to these visitors.

Just a day after Emeka passed, Oby was shouting at Emeka’s 82 years old mother, remonstrating with her that Emeka was a very wicked man who did not take care of his family, and that all the goodwill Emeka had was misplaced and that Emeka should not have enjoyed such goodwill. The Jezebel was even resentful of her husband’s goodwill.

Yet, despite all these, Oby has hijacked Emeka’s corpse as a final punishment to Emeka and a rebuke to the Mbonu-Mbaefo Royal Family.

Suddenly, Oby, the woman whom Emeka (a lifelong British citizen by reason of his birth in London) married in Nigeria and vested her with British citizenship is now exercising British power in the hijack of Emeka’s corpse, and shouting and disrespecting Emeka’s mother who by giving birth to Emeka in London in 1964 made Emeka, a British citizen. WHAT AN IRONY OF FATE!

But one of the enduring mysteries in this whole saga is the betrayal of Emeka by one of his closest friends, Chuba Obi, who now, in a nefarious mission for the expropriation of Oby either in concubinage or polygamous marriage has succumbed to the wiles and spells of Oby and has become her greatest organizer, planner, cheerleader in this terrible plot to bury Emeka in London to the chagrin and consternation of Emeka’s larger family. From the day Emeka passed till now, Chuba is yet to visit and see our mother who is still in London, because that would run contrary to the dictates of his new paramour, Oby. This state of affairs saddened Emeka very much in his last days.

We conclude by thanking God that despite Oby’s venomous attitudes and relations towards our brother, Emeka found the fortitude to be kind, loving, humane, caring to all those who he related with. We are therefore assured that he is in heaven praying for us all.

We want to seize this opportunity to thank all Emeka’s friends who trooped out and showed him love and affection throughout his illness. God bless & reward you all.

Please may all be hereby informed that the Mbonu-Mbaefo Royal Family would be announcing in due course, the dates and sequences of the funeral rites and obsequies for Chief Emeka Mbonu in Nigeria.

May God continue to rest Emeka’s beautiful soul, Amen.

It is still not late. Oby cannot fight the whole family. She should release the corpse of her husband their so even if she does nor want to go to Nigeria. She can say her goodbyes her. This case is simple To do otherwise will attract consequences. Peace is necessary
