#EndSARS: Footballers scared to visit Nigeria, says Ndidi

Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has said Nigerian, including footballers who are overseas, are scared to visit the country over alleged killings by suspected operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

He made this known in a tweet on Saturday.

Ndidi, who plays for Premier League club Leicester City, lamented that many Nigerian youths are being killed by those expected to protect them.

The footballer also decried the arrest of youths putting on hairstyles also worn by footballers.

“#EndSARS for the safety of Nigerians… we are scared to visit home because the people who are meant to protect us are killing us. Looking good with dreads is not a crime,” he tweeted.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-0&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1314869828663087108&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fpunchng.com%2Fendsars-footballers-scared-to-visit-nigeria-says-ndidi%2F&siteScreenName=mobilepunch&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550px

Apart from Ndidi, other Super Eagles players, including Leon Balogun, Shehu Abdulahi, and John Ogu had joined the protest against extortion and brutality by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Hundreds of youths across the country have taken to streets in a solidarity protest to call for the scrapping of FSARS.

Balogun tweeted, “The reasons for the #EndSARSProtests have just come to my attention via very disturbing images and tweets. It is never good when those charged with protecting the citizens are now terrorising, extorting, or even killing the same citizens. I support #EndSarsProtests #EndSars.”

“The voice of the people must be heard, @NigeriaGov must #EndSARS and protect the lives of our Youth from #PoliceBrutality. My brother @BashirAhmaad, kindly pass our message to the President @MBuhari,” Abdulahi added.
