There is excitement in the industrial town of Nnewi in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State as Gov Charles Soludo has resumed work on Nnewi Shopping Mall abandoned for fourteen years.
In a brief post made by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Gov Soludo on Media, Mazi Ejimofor Okpara (PhD), the site has been handed over to an undisclosed contractor.
The contractor,according to him, is expected to complete the Nnewi Shopping Mall in fifty-two weeks.
The shopping mall located at the heart of the industrial town has become a nightmare to residents as hoodlums and street beggers took over the abandoned gigantic site.
All manner of criminalities are allegedly committed at the abandoned shopping mall in broad daylight while situations are worse for individuals pissing through the area in the night.
The site was said to be difficult to police by different security agencies, including the Vigilante operatives, because of the expansive nature of the site of the mall.
Our correspondent who took a tour of the shopping mall on Tuesday reports that the site has been cleaned up while the destitudes and other persons who have turned the mall to their place of abode have been chased away.
A number of respondents who spoke with our correspondent on the grounds of anonymity commended Gov Charles Soludo for his brave move to commence work on the shopping mall which was allegedly initiated and abandoned by the administration of Mr Peter Obi.
Many others were curious about the nature of ownership of the mall when completed.
They appealed to Gov Soludo to ensure that the fate that befell the shopping mall in the past did not repeat itself. Vision Newspapers will strive to further information to our teeming followers.
