Father to the Fatherless Foundation awards scholarship to 40 students

Ezeakukwu Emmanuel Nsoedo

The Father to the Fatherless Foundation has gifted scholarships to about forty students, ranging from primary school to the university level.

The scholarship awards are besides different forms of poverty alleviation that the Foundation supports, such as feeding, clothing, and medical treatment.

The primary mover and founder of the UK-based Foundation is Mrs. Udoka Okeke has a huge vision for the charity organization. She said that awarding forty scholarships is just the beginning. She said that they have the ambition to touch the lives of the less privileged in robust numbers across several states.

She is, however, mindful of the paucity of funds at this stage of the Foundation’s development. Udoka said that “the Foundation is enjoying big financial support from her family, siblings, and friends.”

The Foundation promotes wellness life-style as fundamental to good health. They promote physical activities for children and adults. The Foundation members often embark on group trekking to encourage each other to stay fit.

During the Christmas period, the Foundation organized in Nnewi a massive ‘Walk for Life’ in which the beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme and the community members were encouraged to join.

They took several kilometers of walk and detoured to the palace of HRH Igwe KON Orizu III who received them warmly and blessed the members of the Foundation for the noble job they are doing.

HRH Igwe Orizu told Mrs. Okeke and other members not to stop the good work despite the present economic challenges in the country. “It is such well-meaning individuals like you that the community needs now.” He invites others to emulate what the Father TO THE FATHERLESS are doing.

As part of their out reach program, the Foundation went to the Navy town Lagos where they are also known for looking out for the poor. Among the stuff the Foundation gave out was also fifty thousand Naira worth of bread.

Founder of the Foundation Mrs Udoka Okeke revealed to Vision Newspapers that the Foundation was established in memory of her husband, late Mr Benediict Uzoukwu Okeke (Okanume).

The idea of the Foundation was to mirror those acts of kindness for which Uzoukwu was known for and incorporate them as a working guide for its activities. Udoka’s philosophy is to be open-minded towards those who are genuinely concerned about lifting people out of poverty.

Udoka’s work with the Foundation has received so many positive reviews that she has been penciled down to be honored with a humanitarian award later this year.
