The Anambra State Government has commenced the clearance of the Right of Way for the 132kV electricity transmission line serving Nnewi and adjoining communities, bringing to an end more than a decade of delay that stalled the strategic infrastructure project.
The exercise, carried out on the directive of Gov Charles Soludo, was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, alongside the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources during an inspection of the project corridor across Umuogbo-Obiofia in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, and parts of Nnobi in Idemili South.
During the inspection, officials identified and marked structures encroaching on the approved Right of Way to enable the unhindered construction of the 132kV transmission line designed to strengthen electricity infrastructure in Anambra’s industrial hub.
The project, which had remained dormant for over ten years despite its strategic importance, is expected to improve electricity transmission capacity and address long-standing power challenges affecting businesses and residents.
On completion, the transmission line is projected to boost electricity supply to Nnewi and neighbouring communities, enhance industrial productivity, promote commercial growth, and support the expansion of manufacturing activities in the state.
Speaking during the exercise, Ojukwu reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to protecting approved development corridors and ensuring orderly physical development in line with the Soludo administration’s urban renewal agenda.
The latest intervention underscores Governor Soludo’s resolve to revive abandoned infrastructure projects, eliminate development bottlenecks, and create an enabling environment for economic growth and private investment.
The government maintained that the project forms part of its broader commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure capable of driving industrialisation, improving residents’ quality of life, and advancing Anambra’s vision of a smart, livable, and prosperous homeland.
