Govt official supervises beating of commercial driver, apologizes

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr Ossy Onuko last weekend ordered his security attache and touts to beat up a commercial driver.

In a viral video, the driver of GUO Motors who was said to be coming from Lagos was attacked by touts and security operatives attached to the ACTDA boss on trump up claim of reckless driving.

The security operatives attached to Onuko in the video butchered the driver with matchet, the touts and the officials of ACTDA were said to have chased him to the popular UNIZIK junction in Awka.

Hon Onuko ordered his thugs to descend on him. You can see in Red standing and watching while they beat and butchered the innocent Driver.

The ACTDA boss who was seen in the video enjoying the beating ordered the thugs to bring the commercial driver to his office and he was bundled into one of the government vehicles.

Since the incident happened, human rights activists, lawyers have been calling for the sack and prosecution of the erring government official and his touts.

Recall that Agulu people in Anaocha LGA of the state, a day before the assault on GUO driver protested the killing of their kinsman by Gov Charles Soludo revenue agents.

Meanwhile, Mr Onuko in a press release has explained that he tried to stop the driver for reckless driving earlier at certain spots before he catch up with him at unizik junction.

“I also learnt later on that the young man resisted arrest which led to a lot of violent conduct in his arrest, I take full responsibility for all that, and I also apologise to the young man, his company GUO, and my friends and well-wishers who have been embarrassed by my association with such act.” CEO ACTDA said.

Nobody should listen to this power drunk animal. Even if the driver committed any offenses, is beating him like a common criminal the right way in a democracy like ours. This guy and his co travelers are not worthy of public service.
