Hoodlums attack Ibeto office in Effium


Hoodlums have attacked the office of Ibeto Group at Okporo in Effium Community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

It was gathered the hoodlums attacked the office in the night and set the building on fire from the back.

But the police quickly arrived, forcing the hoodlums to scamper into the nearby bushes.

The police mobilised and cut off the fire, which caused minor damage to the building at the back.

Effium had been engulfed in communal clashes since last month, claiming many lives with properties destroyed.

Ebonyi Deputy Governor Dr Kelechi Igwe who was at Effium on Wednesday described as unfortunate the attempt to burn down the company’s office building when the owner, Cletus Ibeto, is not an indigene of the area.

“This is not an aggravated attack, it is an isolated criminal action of some hoodlums who hide under the crisis, but efforts will be intensified to fish out the perpetrators,” he assured.

The Deputy Governor, who noted it takes huge amount of resources and energy to attract investors, assured security agents will mount surveillance to fished out the attackers.

He observed that the crisis in the area has gone beyond community misunderstanding and alleged that some people were behind it to cause instability in the State.

Dr Igwe warned community leaders will henceforth be held responsible for any further breach of peace in the area.
