
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Maj.-Gen. Johnson Olu Irefin has died of COVID-19-related complications.
It was learnt that Irefin, who until July 2020 was GOC of 81 Division in Lagos, died in Abuja after testing positive for COVID-19.

He was also Commander of Land Component, Operation Delta Safe.
The army general, who hailed from Aiyetoro Gbede in Kogi State, was said to have lost his mother last month.

He was to be attending the Annual Chief of Army Staff Conference in Abuja before he took ill and died.

The Army Chief, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, cancelled the conference immediately news of Irefin’s death filtered in.
Buratai also reportedly cancelled invitations to his son, Hamisu Tukur Buratai’s wedding after GOC tested positive.
