Justice Development Peace Caritas(JDPC) Nnewi has carried out health awareness campaign in twenty one rural communities of Anambra State.
The campaign which was put together under the Strengthening Public Accountability for Results and Knowledge (SPARK 2) programme, was carried in selected communities across the three senatorial zones of the State as part of JDPC August activities.
The Director of JDPC Nnewi, Rev. Fr. Benedict Okolo, while speaking with journalists at Woliwo in Onitsha North LGA of Anambra said that the campaign covered a common set of priority of health issues.
Rev Fr Okolo however pointed out that the campaign varied from one community to another depending on the specific and peculiar needs of each community.
“The outreaches provided an opportunity for WDC members and community mobilisers to engage residents directly on available Primary Health Care (PHC) services, particularly Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) enrolment, National Identification Number (NIN) registration, free antenatal care (ANC), free delivery services.
“The sessions also encouraged community members to patronise their PHCs, collaborate with health workers and WDCs, and provide feedback on challenges affecting healthcare.” Rev Fr Okolo asserted.
The Director of JDPC Nnewi insisted that the outreach activities was aimed at increasing community awareness of available PHC services.
The outreach according to Rev Fr Okolo was also aimed at increasing awareness and utilisation of free Ante Natal Care and delivery services available to them in their respective communities.
He said that the outreach will encourage increased patronage of PHCs, strengthen collaboration between communities, WDCs and PHC staff.
