Local Govt Elections : Anambra State Govt Awaits Supreme Court Judgment


The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba has insisted that the non conduct of local government elections in the state is due to a subsisting Supreme Court order directing that activities geared towards the conduct of the elections be put on standstill until the matter challenging the legality of the process is concluded.


According to Mr Adinuba, contrary to the lies being spewed on the social media regarding the conduct of the elections, the State Government has the capacity to supervise the conduct of a free and fair elections anytime the Supreme Court gives a go ahead.
Mr Adinuba reiterated the stand of the State Government on the conduct of the local government elections while fielding questions on a National television.


He explained that the State Government obeys the rule of Law and will not go against the democratic principles that convey the powers of the Judiciary.


According to the Information Commissioner, the APGA government in the state cannot be shying away from conducting the council polls when the party has a record of winning in all the twenty one local government areas of the state.


He decried the level of mischief being perprated in some quarters regarding the elections, saying that those who are behind them are only intended to deceive innocent residents of the State and as such do not mean well for the State.


The information Commissioner condemned the attitude of some individuals in the State who seek to return the State to the dark days of godfatherism and stated that Anambra State has gone far beyond that history and will sternly refuse to be returned to her dark ages.


He was responding to the issues pertaining to Abuja trip by twelve traditional rulers, and their subsequent suspension by the state government, adding that the affected royal fathers have long admitted that they were deceived into taking untoward action by their sponsor and billionaire business man.


Commissioner Adinuba assured that the state government will continue to advance its developmental policies which has made the state spectacular in different sectors of the economy, created the enabling environment for macro, micro, small and medium scale enterprises to thrive, attract massive investments and become safest state in Nigeria.
