Man allegedly beats pregnant wife to death in Ondo


A middle-aged man, Oluwaseun Olabode, 47, has allegedly pummeled his pregnant wife, Blessing, to death in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The accused reportedly committed the crime on April 3, 2020, at No 56 Oke-Agba area of Akure, hitting her right side of the abdomen during a minor disagreement, leading to the death of the unborn child and the mother.

Olabode was arraigned on a one-count charge before an Akure Magistrate Court Wednesday by Ondo State Police Command.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Uloh Goodluck, informed the court that the offence was punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State.

Goodluck said Olabode committed murder and urged the court to remand him to police custody pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

While Counsel to Olabode, A. Ololike, did not oppose the application for a remand order.

The presiding magistrate, N. T Aladejana, ordered Olabode remanded in police custody pending legal advice from the DPP. He adjourned the case to September 8, 2020, for mentioning.
