Nationwide strike: SSASCFA to shut shipping operations on Tuesday over Ajaero’s assault

The Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing, and Forwarding Agencies (SSASCFA) has concluded plans to embark on a nationwide strike on Tuesday,  November 14, 2023, as all logistics  and shipping related activities will be fully paralysed across the nation’s Ports.

Following the resolution reached during the Joint National Executive Council  (NEC) of Tuesday, November 7, 2023 by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) orchestrated by the beastly and gruesome assault on the NLC President,  Comrade Joe Ajaero, SSASCFA declared that the nationwide indefinite strike action would affect operational activities from the shipping subsector of the nation’s maritime industry.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the President General, SSASCFA, Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye, the union will embark on the Industrial action as mandated by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to ensure full compliance.

In solidarity support over the brutalisation of the President, Nigeria Labour Congress and other unionists by the Imo State Government and Police Force , Asonye stated that SSASCFA would comply with the directive to withdraw it services .

The President General stated that as a responsible union,  SSASCFA was committed to taking all necessary steps to minimise any adverse effects on  customers, partners, and the overall business operations within maritime  industry .

He said: “We will keep you updated on developments related to the strike action and any potential changes to the start date or duration.

“We remain hopeful for an amicable resolution to the issues raised by the NLC and TUC, and we are committed to working together to ensure the continued success and stability of our dear industry/sector.

“Your understanding and support during this challenging period are greatly appreciated.

Should you require any additional information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us,” the President General maintained.
