The people of Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State led by prominent Nnewi – born Entrepreneur and sports enthusiast, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma have shown their dissatisfaction with disregard of the 1997 Nnewi Rotational Agreement in the contest for the next Local Government Chairman and the Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo’ s stand on the matter.
The people from the four quarters in Nnewi in their numbers gathered at Chief Gabriel Chukwuma’ residence, Uru Umudim on Sunday, April 19, 2026 to discuss on how to restore unity and fairness in Nnewi.

It must be noted for years, the agreement has helped to maintain balance amongst the four quarters.
The convener, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma in his address said he called the meeting to address the evil perpetrated by few individuals in the community that has taken over the peaceful atmosphere that has been in existence for years.
He disclosed that Igwe Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu lll for over 30 years established Rotational Agreement for elective positions among the four quarters in Nnewi , which according to him has been kept and respected for years now.
He totally condemned the actions of few individuals, who because of their selfish interests recently kicked against upholding the agreement, and influenced the governor to ignore Igwe’s letter addressed to him on the issue.
“I am of the opinion that the 1997 Nnewi Rotational Agreement must be respected and upheld. The present Executive Chairman allowed himself to be used not minding the implications. I can never support what is bad , since our Igwe was disrespected, even the Commissioner For Industry, Hon. Christian Udechukwu and Member, Representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Augustine Ikedoji” he explained.
Chief Eugene Nwizugbe (Anyanwu Igbo) from Otolo thanked Chief Gabriel Chukwuma for organising the meeting, assuring the stakeholders of his maximum support for restoration of peace and normalcy in Nnewi.
“We cannot allow few persons in Nnewi to eliminate the peaceful coexistence in our dear community. Every quarter must be treated equal according to the Rotational Agreement” he added.

Hon. Augustine Ike while speaking said anything bad could be corrected, adding that what they need remain result.
He revealed that he refused to re-contest for the sake of peace in Nnewi, disclosing that they are going to strategize to achieve their collective goal.
“Breaching the Rotational Agreement by few individuals all started because of greed.
Any elective person does not do contract job.
“Selling of shops owned by individuals is illegal. You cannot sell what you don’t owe.Time to act is now, quietly normalcy would be restored” he reaffirmed.
