In line with its policy of keeping Nnewi free from kidnappers, armed robbery, cyber crime (Yahoo Yahoo), exploitation of young girls and other forms of crimes, the Nnewi Vigilante Service has commenced the implementation of its security plan known as Operation Sweep.
The operation kicked off yesterday with a raid on two buildings at Obiofia, Nnewichi-Nnewi where over thirty suspected Yahoo boys and kidnappers live.
The successful raid led to the arrest of the suspects and some young girls that have been allegedly exploited by them.
Also found during the raid were charms, mobile phones and dozens of sim cards allegedly used by the suspects for their operations.
A Commander who in the group who will not want his name mentioned said that the suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
He said the building where the suspects are living have been sealed by the Nnewi Vigilante Group in order to enable further investigation on the incident.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra command, Tochukwu Ikenga (DSP) has confirmed the arrest.
He said that the command has received the suspects and that interrogation has commenced.
