Elder statesman and Ojeozi Ndigbo, Chief Chekwas Okorie, has accused Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, of pursuing a sustained personal vendetta against former governor, Mr Peter Obi.
In a statement issued on October 1, 2026, titled “Soludo’s Vendetta Against Peter Obi Must Stop Now”, Okorie said he had watched with “disgust and utter disappointment” Soludo’s attacks on Obi, presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for 2027, despite Obi’s continued courtesies to him.
Okorie traced the alleged animosity to three political episodes. First, Obi’s victory over Soludo in the 2009 Anambra governorship election where Soludo came third. Second, Soludo’s disqualification from the APGA governorship primary in August 2013 under Chief Victor Umeh, which Soludo still blames on Obi. Third, the 2022 Anambra Central senatorial contest where Umeh, after losing the APGA ticket, defected to Labour Party and won on Obi’s presidential wave.
He alleged that Soludo’s current support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of 2027 is a cover to “bring down Peter Obi by any means possible,” recalling Soludo’s 2022 article “History Beckons and I Will Not Be Silent.”
Okorie described Obi as the most popular candidate today and said the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket on the NDC platform, founded by Senator Seriake Dickson, remains the most formidable since Shagari/Ekwueme.
He urged Soludo to focus on governance in Anambra and to be mindful of history and “the Igbo god of retributive justice, the merciless Amadioha,” adding: “Prof. Chukwuma Soludo leave Mr. Peter Obi alone.”
