PRESS BRIEFING: NNEWICHI COMMUNITY CHOOSES PEACE, UNITY AND JUSTICE FOR NNEWI

To the Good People of Nnewichi Nnewi, Friends, Supporters, Sympathisers and Well-Wishers of Nnewichi Community

The leadership of Nnewichi Community considers it necessary to address our people, friends, supporters and well-wishers following the series of concerns and agitations earlier raised by our community regarding our relationship with Nzukọra Nnewi Forum and our participation in Afiolu Nnewi 2026.

Our concerns were never motivated by a desire to divide Nnewi, undermine any individual, or pursue political interests at the expense of our collective peace. Rather, they arose from our sincere conviction that the dignity, rights, privileges and legitimate interests of Nnewichi Community must be respected within the larger Nnewi family.

Following the concerns raised by Nnewichi, several consultative meetings were held under the directive and guidance of our Supreme Leader, His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu III, with the active participation of respected stakeholders from the four constituent communities of Nnewi.

We are pleased to inform our people that these consultations have yielded significant progress, and several of the concerns raised by Nnewichi have been addressed.

  1. Restoration of Prince Chike Agwuncha

We are pleased to announce that Prince Chike Agwuncha, Secretary-General of Nzukọra Nnewi, has been restored to office.

His official letter of recall and reinstatement is expected to be formally handed over before the end of this week.

We appreciate all those who intervened constructively to ensure that this matter was resolved in the spirit of reconciliation and fairness.

We also appeal to Ikebunwa, the Public Relations Officer of Nzukọra Nnewi, and Ezenwa Afam Nwachukwu, the Chief Provost of Nzukọra Nnewi, to return together with Prince Chike Agwuncha upon the issuance of his letter of return, as a further demonstration that reconciliation and unity have prevailed.

  1. Security Support for Nnewichi

We have also received the assurance that all security support due to Nnewichi Community shall be paid in arrears.

This is an important step towards restoring confidence and ensuring that Nnewichi receives equitable treatment in matters concerning the collective security and welfare of the four communities.

  1. Unity Tour of the Four Communities

As part of the ongoing reconciliation process, there shall be a Unity Tour of the four communities of Nnewi on Saturday, 22nd August 2026.

We therefore call on every son and daughter of Nnewichi to turn out in large numbers and be properly seated at Obi Nnewichi to receive the leadership of Nzukọra Nnewi, the Mayor of Nnewi North, Hon. Echezona Anazodo and his team, the Presidents-General of the other constituent communities and their respective delegations.

This visit is not merely ceremonial.

It is an opportunity to consolidate the peace now being achieved, rebuild relationships, strengthen mutual confidence and foster a renewed sense of inclusion and belonging among the four communities.

Nnewichi should receive our brothers and sisters with dignity, warmth and open hearts.

  1. Nnewichi’s Four-Year Mayoral Cycle

We are also pleased to communicate the understanding reached concerning the rotational arrangement of the Mayoral position in Nnewi.

Nnewichi shall have its full four-year cycle after Umudim completes its four-year cycle.

We understand that the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise and secure the commitment of the four constituent communities to this arrangement is ongoing.

We consider this an important step towards providing greater clarity, fairness and confidence in the future rotational arrangement.

  1. Our Appreciation to the Leadership and People of Nnewichi

At this point, I wish to express, on behalf of the leadership of Nzukọ Agamniru Nnewichi, our profound appreciation to Obi George Onyekaba (Obidiugwu), the Obi of Nnewichi, for his leadership, wisdom and commitment to the welfare and dignity of our community.

I also commend all the stakeholders of Nnewichi, community leaders, elders, youths, women, professionals and indeed every son and daughter of Nnewichi who added their voices to the peaceful pursuit of justice, equity and respect for our community.

To our friends, supporters, sympathisers and well-wishers across Nnewi and beyond, we are deeply grateful.

Your support demonstrated that standing for the dignity of a community does not have to be synonymous with hostility or division.

NNEWICHI CHOSE PEACE

Our people should understand clearly that throughout this process, our ultimate objective was never to destroy the unity of Nnewi.

We sought justice because we believe that there can be no genuine unity without fairness, inclusion and mutual respect.

Today, having seen meaningful progress in addressing the concerns we raised, Nnewichi has chosen the path of peace.

We have chosen dialogue over confrontation, reconciliation over division, unity over disintegration, and the collective interest of Nnewi over individual, political or sectional interests.

We therefore urge all our people to embrace this new chapter with maturity, restraint and goodwill.

Let nobody misinterpret our decision for peace as weakness.

Nnewichi remains committed to defending and protecting the integrity, dignity and image of Nnewichi Nnewi.

At the same time, we recognise that the peace and unity of Nnewi are greater than any political office, individual ambition, disagreement or temporary interest.

No political office is worth the peace of Nnewi.

No individual interest is worth the unity of Nnewi.

No disagreement is worth destroying the bonds that have held our four communities together.

NNEWI IS BIGGER THAN ALL OF US

Nnewichi remains an integral and proud component of Nnewi Kingdom.

We believe that our strength lies not in separation but in a united Nnewi where Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi can coexist as equal partners, respecting one another and working together for the advancement of our people.

We therefore call on all sides to put the past behind us, learn from the issues that brought us to this point, and build stronger institutions founded on equity, justice, inclusion, consultation and mutual respect.

Let the Unity Tour of Saturday, 22nd August 2026 mark the beginning of a new chapter.

Let it be a demonstration that, despite our differences, we remain one Nnewi.

Let our people come together in peace.

Let our leaders come together in peace.

Let our communities come together in peace.

And let us collectively build a Nnewi where every constituent community has a voice, a place and a sense of belonging.

Nnewichi Nnewi is for peace.

Nnewichi has chosen peace over disintegration.

Nnewichi has chosen dialogue over division.

Nnewichi has chosen the greater good of Nnewi.

And today, we can proudly say:

NNEWI WON.

Long live Nnewichi Nnewi.

Long live Otolo.

Long live Uruagu.

Long live Umudim.

Long live Nnewi Kingdom.

Signed:

Engr. Sir. Emmanuel Udoka Chukwueloka, CKSMA
