Russia launched another overnight ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev, authorities said early on Tuesday, with several explosions heard across the city centre.
Ballistic missiles are particularly difficult to intercept because of their high speed. Local authorities said fires broke out in at least two districts, some of them caused by falling debris.
The attack came shortly after several members of the Coalition of the Willing, which unites more than 35 countries in support of Ukraine’s defence against Russia’s invasion, launched an initiative in Paris to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences.
Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion for more than four years with Western support.
