President, Nnewi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NCCIMA)
Distinguished elders, captains of industry, respected mentors, our resilient and ambitious youth, and esteemed guests, good morning and welcome.
On behalf of the Nnewi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NCCIMA), it is my privilege to welcome you to this important gathering focused on one of our greatest indigenous economic legacies—the Igbo Apprenticeship Scheme, popularly known as Igba Boi.
Nnewi is proudly known as the “Japan of Africa” because of its remarkable entrepreneurial and industrial achievements. These successes were not built on foreign aid or government support alone, but on the values of hard work, discipline, mentorship, and enterprise embedded in the Igba Boi system. Many of the successful businesses and industries we celebrate today were built on this foundation.
To our young people, I encourage you to see Igba Boi for what it truly is: a practical school of entrepreneurship. Beyond learning a trade, it offers valuable business experience, mentorship, trusted networks, and a pathway to economic independence. The successful entrepreneurs you admire today once started as apprentices, learning patiently and diligently under their mentors.
As a Chamber, we remain committed to supporting the growth of this system by promoting the integration of traditional business values with modern skills, technology, innovation, and digital commerce. We want our youth to be equipped not only to succeed in today’s marketplace but also to compete globally.
I urge our young people to embrace patience, discipline, and continuous learning. Sustainable success is built through dedication and perseverance.
To our mentors and Ndi Nna Boi, we sincerely appreciate your commitment to nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs. Your guidance continues to strengthen the economic future of Nnewi.
My dear youth, the next generation of Nnewi industrial giants is seated here today. Believe in yourselves, embrace the opportunities before you, and continue the proud legacy that has made Nnewi a beacon of enterprise across Africa.
Thank you, God bless you all, and once again, you are warmly welcome.
Nnewi Kwenu!
