As the Hon Minister for Health, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, prepares to visit the NAUTH permanent site, Nnewi, for the inauguration of projects, and also, the final movement to the permanent site by some departments from the NAUTH temporary site, the Minister will be amazed by the ambiance of the hospital’s environment.
It is inconceivable to think that most of the structures and equipment at the NAUTH permanent site were through the instrumentality of Prof Joseph Ugboaja who showcased an uncommon Midas touch.
The Minister will experience what a great disrupter Professor Ugboaja is. Prof Ugboaja thinks big and is a perfectionist when he is engaged with any task for the hospital.
Prof Ugboaja possesses a charisma that only a person with level-two and level-three leadership skills can possess. Both levels of leadership skills are critical to achieving results in an organization.
Under Prof Ugboaja, the management and staff have been collaborating without rancor. He has created an atmosphere of camaraderie amongst the staff and management which has allowed for rapid development across all sectors of the institution.
What one sees on the ground are vast projects that were completed in the fastest time possible within the Nigerian university settings. To compound the baffling conundrum, these projects were done when the government was experiencing some serious financial crunch time.
Ugboaja as the CMD has engaged critical stakeholders to partner with him to deliver on his vision which at the time he canvassed for the job seemed more like sloganeering than an achievable goal in the long time.
The dream to transform the hospital and make it a destination for medical tourism is imminent as he and his team have managed to engage in a systematic multidimensional approach to developing projects.
In achieving the fastest infrastructure development in the University Teaching Hospital system, Prof Ugboaja did not fail to address the shortcomings that hindered extracting the best from his employees. He dealt with the employees’ welfare in all its facets.
Above all, in commissioning the projects, the Minister will discover why the NAUTH CMD is a rare gem. The names of honor he would see were those that impacted the hospital in a very special way. A great leader recognizes the best in his peers and gives them a deserved place of honor.
When the Minister or any person takes time to appreciate what has taken place at the NAUTH permanent site, they will understand that most of the structures were built under three years.

He is really doing well. In less than 3 years Prof Joseph Ugboaja has given us a new NAUTH.
Prof Joseph Ugboaja has sworn that NAUTH permanent site must be number one in Nigeria.
May God strengthen him to do more and all the supporters.
