Edo Governorship Election : Obaseki Describes Reelection As Victory Over Godfatherism

Governor Godwin Obaseki has commended the people of Edo State for re-electing him for another term of four years describing his re-election as a triumph over godfatherism.

Commending his teeming supporters who displayed immense courage in the face of threats, intimidation, and brutalization, Governor Obaseki said that the collective will of Edo people made it possible for the triumph over godfatherism.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC yesterday declared Governor Obaseki winner of last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, announced the result of the election in Benin City.

Governor Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, polled three hundred and seven thousand nine hundred and fifty-five votes to defeat his closest rival, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress APC, who garnered two hundred and twenty-three thousand six hundred and nineteen votes.

Professor Rim-Rukeh, while declaring Governor Obaseki winner, said the incumbent was returned elected after satisfying all requirements in line with the law.

Governor Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party ran against All Progressives Congress standard-bearer Pastor Ize-Iyamu and thirteen others.

Governor Obaseki was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2016 but defected to the Peoples Democratic Party after being denied ticket owing to intra-party squabbles.
