The Abia State Government has taken delivery of the GeneXpert diagnostic equipment ordered from the United States of America by the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu administration in April 2020.
It was learnt that the state COVID-19 rapid response team had, in partnership with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, concluded the test run of the equipment in the isolation centre in Amachara.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, on Friday said, “The advantage of the GeneXpert equipment is that it reduces the chances of sample contamination and as well exposure of laboratory personnel to infection.”
Meanwhile, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, on Friday, donated one PCR machine to the state.
